Default Clutch Lever return

My clutch cable lever isn't returning completely back to a flush position. When I adjust the cable adjuster that is located in the middle of the cable, do I turn the long bolt counter clockwise or clockwise or if looking at the front turn it towards the bike or away and then set the locking nut?

get the shop manual for your bike, there's more involved than that.

Loosen the adjuster lock nut and turn the cable. You will figure out very quickly which way loosens and tightens it. Tighten the lock nut back down when done. A full clutch adjustment is more involved but may or may not be necessary.

I saw a service tech adjust it for another biker with the same problem and all he did was adjust the cable adjuster (or whatever it's called). Just didn't see which way he turned it. Don't want to monkey with it unless I know the correct way to adjust that part of the cable.

I believe down is tighter, up is looser.

There is supposed to be some slack at the lever. Pull the cable away from the clutch lever housing, and adjust the cable to just where there is still a 1/16" or more space at the cable housing. This will leave you with a little slack on the lever. You need a little slack there to keep from running your throwout brg all the time. If you have a 1/16" to an 1/8" there now, it should be OK and not need adjusting.

If you can put a nickel in between the lever and the perch it is good.

I think I can put 2-3 nickels in the gap.

I did like the Dr. ordered and loosened the lock nut and wrenched it down and all is good. Return is now where it should be. Hated running down the road and noticing that it didn't return all they way and flick it back with my finger all the time. Thanks all
