Default Taller bars or risers, FXSTC?

Hi, new to forum, just bought a 2007 Custom in January. If I want to raise the handlebars mildly, about three inches, is it going to look better by getting different handlebars, or will risers look okay. Also, it looks like all the lines would be long enough to do without changing, except the brake line. Does that sound correct?

Risers are cheaper, but taller bars definitely look better.

I cannot tell you whether your cables will be long enough or not, but if you're going 3" over stock, I'd probably check the lengths out. It is very likely you will need longer cables. And, that is going to be the cost factor. As a starting point, look at spending at the very least $270 on cables alone. Personally, I haven't seen it cheaper, but then I don't know a lot of people to be changing things out like that.

Taller risers will look okay, but the bars will give it a more "ultimate" look. Again, that is more money...so plan your budget accordingly.

My advice to you: take your bike to a shop that has done this before, get it measured to where you will want it, and then they will measure your wiring and cable needs to see what the new lengths will be, etc. Then, they can give you a more accurate estimate of how much things will run.

On my 08 FXSTC, I changed my stock risers, which I believe were 1 inch rise, and 1 inch pullback, to a 3/3 set which I picked up on E Bay for something like $30. What a difference!!!! Way more comfortable, especially on long rides, and the stock cables worked fine.

Taller risers will work, but like Doc said new bars that fit you properly will look & feel better.
In any event you might be able to get away with the stock length lines, but its almost a dead certainty that you'll need a new brake line.
Personally I would recomend that you replace the rubber bushings with poly ones before you try anything else.
You would be amazed at the difference putting less than $15 in parts and 20 minutes of labor can make in the feel of the bike.

I put these on my 07 custom 5" rise 2" Setback, I think a 3" setback would hit the console as it is really close. They are Harley ones and run about a Buck twenty if memory serves. I had to change the Brake line. The wires seemed tight but I just tugged on them and pulled enough from under the tank. They really make all the difference in the world in comfort, one of my favorite mods next to the 3" extensions on the forward controls.

I say go for new bars especially since you most likely will have to change cables anyway.

I did the 3" Tank Lift Kit with 3" Risers with my stock mini-apes on the '08 FXSTC.
Picture Below. Oh yea, forgot to mention. On my '08 doing the above mods I didn't have to change any cables. Save me alot of $$$. The tank lift kit came from J&P cycles online and the risers came from eBay. Anyway to save a buck.
