I have some oil coming out of the overflow hose that runs down in front of my rear tire. I have drained a little oil out of my oil tank. As a result, the oil has pretty much stopped leaking out of the hose (only a very little came out after my last ride, I will drain a little more oil out tomorrow to fix the problem). The oil level now shows half way between the "ADD" and "Full HOT" lines on the dipstick when the engine is hot.
My question is this, is there any other reason I would have oil coming out of the overflow hose? Is the hose solely for dispensing of excess oil from the oil tank?
Well, I drained a little more oil out of the oil tank today. The dealer told me to run it where the oil level is half way to the Full HOT line when the engine is hot.
Hopefully that will take care of the oil coming out of the overflow hose. It's just a little annoying I guess.
Anyone have any other ideas as to what could cause oil to come out of the overflow hose?
I didn't even know there WAS an oil overflow hose.... the one time my oil tank was too full, it just blew into the air cleaner and left a puddle of oil on the crankcase btween the cylinders when she was parked overnight...
