The cost for the paint and clear coat could cost over $100 for a good urathane and prep chemicals alone. Add body filler, primer, and labor and $350 is not too bad for a top quality job.

I was thinking about buying another set of saddlebags for my 09 SG as I was going to get a great deal on a set of black denim ones for $550 brand new from a 10 SG. It would have been if they would have matched my paint set. I thought that if I could have them painted for $300 or so, that it would still be a great deal, but come to find out that it was $650 plus the $550 for the bags, which would have cost more than to buy the OEM's brand new, of which are $1100. Needless to say I forgot "that foolishness" real quick. So many times you are better off just going with OEM and factory painting to boot.

Yeah, I bought a front fender from JP cycles you could see where the metel was stamped and strecthed from the stamping machine it had ribs all over it. That took me a few hours to mud, wait for it to dry, sand smooth, and then do it again till it was perfect so it is time consuming.

paint is a min. of $100 most of the time. and if you figure in labor (flash time between coats, sanding, buffing, any mudding) the price sounds about right.

I bought an el cheapo, no name, made in china fender off ebay...it was slick as a button and required no bodywork at all. With paint the hours they charge is to get it ready to paint...it only takes a few minutes to actually paint that fender.
