Default Engine Shelving

Well, I'm pulling my engine off my bike and shelving it. The engine is fine. I just want to go with another one. I want to keep this motor, so my question is, what's the best way to preserve the engine on the shelf? Do I douse it in oil and keep it at room temperature to keep it from rusting?

Thanks,

Chromer
