I have the same experience, upgraded the air cleaner and pipes ans now I'm hearing sounds I didn't hear before. So, I'm not alone. My bike is a 2010 FLSTC with V&H BSS, FuelPak, and a K&N RK-3910 filter kit.

My '09 Heritage got very loud while out at Sturgis. Seems to have quieted back down now. Dealer said it was the balancers. They are doing a 5k service and said that they would let me know. Should I have concerns?

Don't worry just yet Goat. Wait till they take a look at it. Let us know what the dealer says. Seems like the further away you get from home, the louder the noise gets.

Cool pics guys. Thanks. I knew what the counter-balancer is, and in theory, what it does, but was clueless to the mechanics of it inside the engine. Nice to know and your pics were perfect.

Got 30K on my deuce, it's always sounded like a sewing machine on steroids. Thanks for the information and pics, best ones I've seen to date.

Thanks for the great pics, much appreciated as I never knew the location or what the assembly looked like.
BTW, that's not reciprocating mass, it's rotating mass.

I've got 18,000 on my '08 and the primary has been loud since it was new. It's worse the hotter it gets. After a several hundred mile trip, I'll pull out my earplugs when I get off the interstate and I can hear the primary over the pipes. I has to be something with the automatic tensioner, because the 88s don't sound like this. I've heard the same noise on several other 96s. I run the **** out of it and don't worry. Harley builds the best bike on the road today.
