Well thanks to all of you for your advice. I did my first oil change today, since the dealer did the 1k service last year. I noticed that my drain plug had some white residue, which looked like some kind of teflon lubricant. I wiped it clean and inspected the o-ring (which looked fine) but did not put anything on the threads. Should I have put teflon tape (or any other kind of lubricant) on the threads? Did not seem to need anything as it threaded on just fine and I did not see any leaks when I was done. I did notice that when I took the plug out, it was not very tight at all. The whole thing took about an hour, including cleanup, and I went with Amsoil synthetic 20w-50. I followed the advice of a few of you on this forum and pre-filled the oil filter about half way with fresh oil, so that when I started it for the first time, the oil light was only on for about 1-2 seconds as it had enough pressure. The bike only took 2 quarts and 24 ounces (manual says it is a 3.5 quart capacity - 2009 Fatboy). I guess the rest was left in the engine. I tried using the cut up soda bottle method for changing the oil filter, but it still made a mess. I did not do the tranny and primary as they only have about 1,000 miles on them. I will do them probably with the next change.

I will pick up a few new o-rings next time I am at the dealer. I figured since it was in good shape, why not re-use it. Also, my oil level was at about 3/4 up between lines.

Yeap those are them...Screw harley they get enough $$$$.that way you change them Every time,that's what I do...oh yeah good job on the oil change,and the $$$ you saved
