Default LED Feul Guage

Was thinking about changing out the feul guage to one of the LED type. Does anyone here have one? How easy is it to read in the sun light? Did you change it out yourself and how do I remove the old one? Any thoughts? Thanks. [sm=feedback.gif]

They work great and are easy to read.
Mine was a little affected when I lowered my bike, but the dealer adjusted it and it's more accurate than ever before.

LED is the neon kind isn't it? ie light emitting diode. LCD is liquid crystal like we have in odometer. So please help me who makes the LED and what information they give you and do you really mean LED or is it LCD.

I love mine! They are easy to see day and night. I did mine myself, was easy, if i remember once you put it in the tank you have to turn the inside and it pops right in. Took me about 30 minutes because the directions are a little confusing, but you can do it!

I installed the pop up filler cap and LED gauge sold by HD right after I bought my '06. The fuel gauge failed in 60 days. My dealer's first response was that since they didn't install it, it wasn't under warranty. After I reminded them, in no uncertain terms, that I didn't argue one iota about what I paid for my bike, that I paid retail, and that I did that because they were a business in my community, they relented and got a replacement for me, which I installed and it has worked great ever since.

The trickiest part is dealing with the electrical connectors. If you have never worked with them before, it will take you a while to figure them out. You need a "pick" to release the delphi tips. (I use a blunt needle from a medical supply house because in the little ol' town that I live in, the local electronics supply house didn't carry the pick, which is a tool that is sold under the delphi name.)

The first one that I received installed differently than the replacement. The difference was in the electrical wiring. I liked the first one (which involved taking wires out of and installing them in to the delphi connectors. I believe that the second one called for splicing and soldering. I would get some heat shrink and one of those heat guns if that's what you get, so that you can do a more permanent and water tight installation than you get with electrical tape.

Take your time, follow the instructions, and check what you are doing before you "commit". You won't have any problems that can't be overcome. Oh, and disconnect your battery.

Do a search on this subject, those flush mount LEDs look awesome, but are not accurate as a fuel gauge, if they were I would have a set. Good luck. Looks vs. function ............

I am very "mechanically challlenged" and the dealer told me I would have no problem installing the skull collection led gauge. He was right until the part about me cutting the wrong wires (instructions didn't give any detail -- just "cut the wires") and $128 later the shop fixed my mistake. Anyone w/any ability could do it (i'm an idiot and have no mechanical ability, so count me out). I can see it very clearly in the day, and it seems to work well.

the look is great -- just be sure which wires you cut!

I have the stock fuel gauge, which I never pay attention to. But it sure is pretty at night when the little yellow one comes on..
