Default need help..2001 softail standard

I am working on my bros bike, 2001 softail standard. we want to put the lowered progressive springs in. 1st tube went very easy, no troubles. the 2nd tube however is being a witch. We can not get the fork nut off, seems frozen to the tube. I have tried every safe method I can think of (i.e. rags and hose clamps, oil filter strap wrench, pure hand strength, and a lil heat) we can not keep the fork from spinning. I am almost to the point of putting a pipe wrench on it ( below the lowers, and ofcourse sanding the rough spots back down.) Got any ideas for me?

You can try using an impact wrench if possible

sorry i misspoke guys. its actually a 2002 softail standard, also not the fork nut but rather the fork plug. Half round but we are able to use a 13/16 open end on it.

I used a bench vise and a set of bench vise protectors so that it wouldn't mess up the finish of my forks. Hope this helps.

J&P cycles sells a fork leg and tube holder kit made by Jims - part number is 910-943.

Take a look at the picture of the holder and you may be able to make something work similar if this is a one time use.

Let us know how it turns out. I myself am about to embark on a similar procedure and on the same model I'm going with the progressive drop-ins. Want to level out the bike Low!

Put the axle back thru both sides and loosen each side before taking just one side apart... it keeps the fork from spinning...
