Default tripple tree 1986softail
any one ever have a tripple tree crack? the bottom one, can they be welded? it cracked right by the downtube. how do you measure the down tube to see what size it is? was told it should be like 41mm.

If it happened to me it would get replaced.........To critical a part to trust a weld

It could be repaired by welding...and if properly done it would be as good as new...but finding a competent welder could be a problem, it may require re-machining and or re-chroming. You could go on ebay and find a descent used one a lot cheaper.

Way cheaper and easier to buy another one. How did you manage to crack it?

I was just riding down the road and the pinch bolts head snaped off and it cracked the tree. I head it snap and went what was that and then it pulled the bike to the left side I hobbled it home and took it apart. dont know what the bolt snaped off. ya I am looking on e bay for one.

Yep. I agree. That's a remove and replace item. Now if it were 50 years ago and you were living on the farm repairing everything and had all the right tools and didn't really care about the chrome you could easily fix this.
