Default Ness extensions

After the ride down to St Augustine and back, I immediately came home and got the ness forward control extensions. Is this something I can handle? What special tools, if any, are needed. I know it includes something for the kick stand. What exactly is done to the kickstand? Will I need a lift?

Knowing how to bleed brakes is a plus and having a lift would help. No special tools. I didn't have anything special for my kickstand either.

You will need a lift because you will be temperarly removing the assembly which holds the kickstand and a torx wrench as well. I can't remember what size.

Default No Worrie

I just added the 3" Arlen Ness extension on my 09 NT...was pretty simple. I found the hardest part about the whole thing was removing the exhaust. Not sure if removing the exhaust is absolutley a must but it sure made it easier to install the new longer brake line. I took mine off as I had a new exhaust to install anyways. The shifter side is totally easy and takes all of about 10 minutes with a couple of gulps of your favourite bevy ! If you have a buddy around that can sit and hold the bike up for you for that long you wont need a lift or special stand, but if you are going it solo you will need to be able to hold the bike up as you will be removing the stand. I just removed the whole left side forward control in one piece...put in the new longer shifter rod and then put it right back in place. ( after added the extension plate that is ). No special tools by no means...you will have to pump the brake awhile to get the new brake fluid through but other than that it was pretty simple. Have fun...

It's not bad at all. A brake bleeder vacuum makes the job a lot easier.

Oh and I didn't remove any of my exhaust. I think that it would have made things more accessible but I just didn't want to.
