Ok stupid question,, But what type of paint does harley use?? is it a clear coat or a base paint??

Have the sunglow Lava and viv Black looking at waxs want to make sure I get the right one.

Harley does use clearcoat, but speaking from past experience be careful with it because it scratches easily.

 

It's a five part system made by PPG. Fill, base, colour(s), stripes, clear (not including activators and solvents). The touch up bottles that the dealer sells are a one part (meaning no kicking over with activator or solvents) crappy colour match.

You can buy the exact colours from a PPG Premium dealer, but the prices are crazy. Any good paint dealer will be able to match the colour using a digital scan, and then you do not have to pay the HD upgrade in pricing.

 

No, that is exactly wrong. The colour coat is almost flat (less than 45 degrees gloss) and is able to be repaired or sanded before clear application easily. The clear coat has no pigments, and therefore flows much more evenly, and gives a smoother, higher gloss finish than a enamel topcoat. Clears have huge amounts of hardeners and U.V. protectant in them, and once they are cured, perform much better than enamels. The reason most cheap painters use enamels is that clear means one more application, meaning time and money, so these myths are always spread around.
