Default How much paint??

How much paint does it typically take to paint an Ultra? 2 quarts?

What brand of paint? I ask because some paint uses a reducer that mixes 1:1 with the paint; while others, HD paint from the HD store for example, uses an activator that is mixed at a much higher paint to activator ratio--so you would use more HD paint.

For my recent paint project, I used PPG paint (DBC) which is mixed 1:1. I don't recall how much paint the painter actually shot. I do recall I paid about $500 for paint and materials at wholesale prices.

Also, tri-coat requires more paint since you are shooting a base coat, tinted clear coat, and clear coat. A base coat/clear coat job would use less paint all else being equal.

PM jharanin and see what he has to say.

This is more of a bump for your question since my reply doesn't answer your question.

Harleypingman is right, first the color will determine how well it covers, second the undercoat will determine this as well. If you're painting red over a light grey sealer or primer it will take more coats than say black. Are you planning on painting it yourself or do you have someone else doing the work? As HPM said most basecoats are a 1-1 ratio a quart of mixed gives you 2 quarts of sprayable. Clearcoats and primers are mixed differently.

to answer your question not knowing everything I would say a quart would be fine...thats a general answer in sq ft of coverage.

The best thing would be to discuss with who ever is painting it how much they think they would need.

I bet Cuda is trying to buy HD paint and take to a painter for his new parts. I was going to ask the same question.

Like the others say, some paints require that you shoot a silver or black base first. Then , the color, and then maybe a tinting agent over that. It really depends on what type of paint.A solid color, you would need a quart of paint, and maybe a little more clear.

Well as of right now, I'm likely gonna be using PPG base/clear. And I'm actually painting my Roadking. But I may add a trunk and fairing at a later date, so that's why I referenced an Ultra. Going back with the stock color, or very close to it.
