Stage1 == Yes or No
I have a 2007 Heritage and I want to put on the Screamin Eagle air breather on my bike. One HD dealer tells me I have to have a fuel management system as well and another dealer tells me all i need to do is have my bike remapped and I'm ready to go. What's up with this, is the one dealer just trying to get money out of me, which I realize they will do, or are they right. How do you guys feel about this. Thankx for the help.
Remapping the bike is the same as doing fuel management. Remapping is a download from the dealer that will change how your bike handles the fuel which will cool your bike. That's what a fuel management system is for. But it's limited. If you're just doing the Stage one...then it'll work fine. But it's pretty much specifically made for the SE air and pipes. So if you think you'll do any other pipes, then you may want to think about something else. The V&H FuelPak is perfect for their pipes if you're just doing the Stage 1. That's all I intend to do and it works perfect for my bikes.
You should do the Stage one when you can. It'll cool the engine and give the bike a better ride. It comes from the factory WAY too lean.

stage one gives u more air . so u will need to do the fuel thing . I believe a lot of guys on here do it their self . they use fuel motto I think . I bought mine 09 rk with stage one already on it with rush slip ons . it has the screaming eagle super tuner . I got all this at no cost to me
Go to Fuel Moto's site and do some reading. For the price they send you one mapped and ready to go. Most everyone I know has it and the dealer told me about it. I have the SE air cleaner from fuel moto with the Power commander-5 and the bike runs great. If you ever do add anything down the road all you do is look up the map and download.
I stuck with the harley re-mapping for now because the bike is still under warranty and the dealer said a pc5 will void it. It really was a rip-off, but I needed to do something to work with my pipes and air cleaner. I'm happy with the final results, but will get the pc5 for sure in two years. Anyways, whatever way you go with, stage 1 is a must. You'll get a lot more out of your bike, and for me, it made a great difference in 6th gear.
Stage 1 yes or no? yes all the way. Stage 2,3 and 4 absolutely!! For those that haven't gone this far, you have no idea what your true potential is. Done right there is no reliability, rideability or fuel milage concerns. Theres nothing like 100+ hp and tq. As far as fuel management, where this thread is going, come on do a search this has been discussed easily a couple hundred times!!!

I did the stage 1 on my Softail Custom by the dealer. It was expensive and at least it was done by someone who I thought knew what they were doing. Anyway the bike runs fine. I will figure that if the engine ever needs any serious work done, I will opt for 110" motor and be done with it.
even a 110" engine needs to breathe properly
i have the SE stage 1 kit..i noticed it didnt have the pull it should ..opened up the cans and no wonder what a rip off..the performance slip ons are stuffed full of wading <glasspacks> and the baffle is a complete block off forcing all exhaust up through the glaspacks into the can then back down through the glass again and out 18-5/16 holes ..the SE2 baffles are not completely closed off which allows about 10% straight through.the SE2 baffles also have 25-5/16 holes combined with the straight through pipe gives more torque/power and better sound..
i did the math and added 18 more holes and garbaged the glasspacks ..wow what a difference..
now that SE2 aircleaner kit ..also a rip off the element is paper not washable had i known i would have ordered an arlen ness big sucker 2
as for the download its way easier to have them download a map than to start a tune your bike if your new to bikes or not into wrenching,but if you do spend some money the pro tuner is the way to go the new one is awesome ..you can make your own map and upload it no piggyback system to trick your ecm its the rear deal ..imo ofcoarse
it allows for 15 min of ecm recording which then can be maniputated on your pc/laptop etc
