Who is running an oil cooler on mostly stock bikes?
What kind did you buy?
Where did you mount it?
(I noticed an advert. for one that mounts under the bike around the shocks. Doesn't look like a good idea to me but I couldn't tell how it was made, etc.)
We sell a lot of oil coolers. that being said I do not run one as I find it unnecessary. As opposed to idling in hot traffic I split lanes. Jagg seems to make the nicest ones for the softail. They make one that mounts on the down tubes and one that mounts down by the regulator at the bottom of the down tubes. You wnat to have the oil cooler on the front of the bike so that it catches the wind to cool the oil in my opinion. If you want pricing let me know which one and I'll price it out. http://www.setrabusa.com/jagg%20file...ges/cooler.htm
I have installed a cooler on both 04 carb fatboy and 10 heritage. The bike does run cooler and some say it is a waste but I'm happier with it then not. I didn't put the chrome face plate on for two reasons : it covered up a good portion of the fins and I didn't want to draw attention to the cooler.
Jagg....customer service is the cats ***....Marvin sure was a help when I ordered the cooler from Drag and they sent me the wrong one....Thats another story....
I am in no way knocking, but I live near the ocean where it is not too hot most of the time. If I lived in AZ I'd have one. I am waiting for the UltraCool softail version to come out as it has a built in fan and is more like a radiator. When they do come out I just might get one. I am good at inserting my foot in my mouth. LOL.
In my (Never to be humble) opinion, an oil cooler, as long as it is quality and installed properly will extend the life of the bike even in cooler climates. NOT COLD CLIMATES but cooler. It adds capacity to the system, even if just a little, and prevents the oil from breaking down as fast by lowering temps, again, even if just a little.
Is it worth the money? Sure, how much do you like your scoot?
