Unwanted sound
I have a 98 Fatboy very low miles and it's developed a chirping sound. The sound only starts after the bike is good and warmed up and only under acceleration. If I back off the throttle it stops and if I pull in the clutch it stops. It is very noticeable during acceleration and pretty much stops at cruising speed. Any ideas?

Sounds to me like a belt chirp. Ignore or wash and dress the belt and it should go away. For awhile.

thanks for the info, I'll get some belt dressing and ride like it's stolen......which for the low price I paid, it practically is!

If the dressing makes the chirp go away then adjust the belt, it's either too tight or too loose.

My dad had the same problem on his 07 Deuce. It was an alignment issue with the belt. Honest to god, the dealer told him to rub soap on the belt, to make the whine go away. Being a mechanic, he did the right thing and aligned the belt correctly, so it tracked properly.....
