Default tach install

got an HD tach to install on my '10 FXSTC. Man, can they make something that used to be easy difficult. Says you need a 'packard crimper' and a 'packard micro crimper'. Now, a net search yielded neither at dealers but one place in germany sells them for a couple of hundred....

anyone know, how can you crimp those tiny terminals in a way that will work and not cost so much?

thanks in advance,
rem

Splice your wires into the existing harness using old fashioned solder and shrink tubing to seal the connection . . . the tools to which you refer and the terminals will cost you far more than the entire Tachometer. Unless you have a lot (and I do mean a LOT) of experience with these new connectors and their repair . . . a solder connection into an existing harness will be far more secure, dependable and will probably last longer than the rest of the bike. Trust me . . . I used to teach classes to experienced technicians on how to use these tools and make the connections to which you refer. The instructions represent an Electrical Engineer lacking a bit of touch with the Real World.

I used "T" tap connectors on mine(avail from auto parts store)
no splicing /soldering needed. I installed a mini tach (not harley) recently
if you want you can look at my signature link and look for the
"tach install album" to check out the pics of the console wiring.

Here's some pics in case you need
it:
Basically, even if your tach wires are colored different, Your tach signal wire should be pink, and ground wire should be the same.
Also, the Ignition On wire location is the same for the 12volt power. Hope this helps.
