Wanting to adjust my suspension for some two up riding. Jam nuts will not break free. How much time will it take to break the locktite free with my heat gun?
Finally gave up....Held heat gun on the jamb nut a good minute or more. Got it hot enough I could feel heat radiating off of it when putting spanner on it. But, no go. Will try again in the morning when fresher and lest frustrated. Maybe someone will have a tip. Hate to take it in for something this simple. Grrrr!!
I gave up and had my local dealer break them loose the first time. They worked on them for 30 minutes. They didn't charge me anything and I didn't buy my bike there.
When you finally break the retention nuts loose and adjust your shocks, just barely snug the retention nuts, back in place, when you are done.
For some reason the nuts tend to tighten up between the times I adjust the shocks. The retention nuts have never worked loose, while riding, even though I just barely tighten them.
The first time I broke the nuts loose to adjust the shocks I tightened tightened the nuts back up.
The next time I went to break them loose it was like they were loctited in place again. It is also not a good idea to adjust your shocks all the way one way or the other. If you want to go all the way to the firmest or softest setting, turn them back just a hair so they are not jammed in place, one way or the other, or they also will be hard to break loose next time.

if you can take some weight of the rear tire that will help alot.....if you have a standerd floor jack use a 2x6 and run across and use that...dont need to get it off the ground but get the weight off the rear...
Thanks for the tip DyNaBoB. I'll see if I have clearance to do that in the morning. PO had lowered the bike a bit. Not sure my floor jack is low profile enough but will check.
just push your front tire up on a 2x4 or 2x6 and slide under the front frame rail....take the cup off the jack too it makes it lower and flatter surface
For the lift just make a little ramp in front of your front wheel, ride up and let some one push the lift under the bike. Thats the way I do it. Works perfect.
