I just dropped my order on a 2011 black and white Deluxe. I am active duty military stationed in Japan so all the add on toys are kind of hard to come by unless you want to pay an arm and a leg. With that said, I do know that I will eventually want a screen for this sled. I normally like to ride without one but I also realize that it will come in handy for long trips. I am definitely thinking a quick release style for this reason. I also would like to hunt down a screen that is going to fit the retro vibe of this cruiser. Does anyone have any good suggestions on what or where I should be looking at? Is it best to stay with the HD line of products with these kind of things? I have been riding all my life but this is my first HD so thank you for the help that you can throw towards my way.
Congrats on the new ride. The HD nostalgic windshield looks great on this bike. We put the light smoked low version on the wife's Deluxe. Pops on and off in about 5 seconds.
Thanks for the quick reply on this and I will look this up and start building up my HD bookmark folder How is the buffeting with this screen at highway speeds? I know a screen is great to have especially when the season changes and the weather starts to get colder but how is this bike naked as it comes? I know these seem like basic questions but I was not able to test ride this bike at all because of ordering from an overseas installation.
I am 5.5 and it works great. I had to go with the smoke one as the clear one would be too tall for me. you can always get a new shield from several places online that can be shorter wider etc
thanks for your service. it is greatly appreciated.
I put the HD nostalgic windshield on an '08 Fatboy. like's been said before, easy on - easy off. I also installed the HD fork mounted wind deflectors - these help keep the wind from buffeting my chest.
Personally...I'd go with the Nostalgic one. It's taller so you can have it shaved down to whatever exact size you want. But if you buy one too short for you...you have to rebuy a new one. We've got the HD one on both the Fat Boy Lo and the Deluxe and they're great. I don't use it around town either, but for road trips its a MUST HAVE.
Thanks for all these quick responses to my question and it looks like the HD nostalgic one it will be. I assumed its the same way with HD as it is with my Triumph that 9 out of 10 times you seem better off going with HD OEM parts when putting something on. Looking forward to get this bike is an understatement! Looking forward to getting back to the states as well and joining some of you PGR folk. Thank you for doing those missions, it means quite a bit to those of us in the uniform. My last deployment I was printing out some of the letters of appreciation and reading them off to my flight once a week to help with morale. Makes a world of difference when you have people back home in your corner. I will ride with you guys when I return back home...hopefully by that time it will only be welcome back missions...I can always hope.
