Your hands will go numb after about 20 miles . But .... It will have more low end than a stock twin cam , it will sound better at idle , and will last for ever .

You must have ridden a bad one jayson I'm old and regulary ride 2-300 mile days and never had my hands ,legs or azz ever go numb.I cruise the interstate @ 75- 80 and can still use the mirrors.Springer might help.
I don't think I would trade my 95 FLSTN for a new one. Doesn't leak, goes, feels, sounds the best. I don't care for the old time wheel bearings but man she's what I wanted in a Harley that great potato potato shake and vibration.
Had a '89 Evo Softail Custom, put 124k mi. on it. Have an '06 Softie now, the big diff is the counter balanced motor and the stiffer frame, handles and rides much better then the Evo, better shockes and brakes too. Loved the Evo, love the TC even better... I can't compare going backwards, only forwards. I had an Iron Head Sportster and a '79 Shovel and the Evo shaked right up there with the best of them, but it never bothered me. The new bike is more comfortable, and my 88" stage I TC has at least equal the power as my stage II Evo.
Evo Softails vary somewhat in the degree of vibration. I've had three motors in mine over its life, and they were all different in feel and mechanical noise. The current motor was a real paint shaker, but a Balance Masters balancer on the compensator really smoothed it out. It vibrates a bit at idle (bars and rear fender), but smooths out on the road. In top gear it's quite smooth from 55 to 75. At 85, the bars shake so much, you can hardly hold on to them. Fun, fun, fun!
I've had my '94 FLSTN since new, and wouldn't part with it for anything.
I have a 94 Fatboy, ridden my buddies 06 was not impressed. I never felt like I was really riding the bike, it was more of just going through the motions. Wouldnt trade, sell mine for a newer bike. As said before, love the carb!!
i have solid wheels on mine. i think this contributes a bit to mild vibration i get after 70 due to no way to balance the wheel. i'm putting a new rear tire on this month and will try the dyna bead tire balance. heard good things about this so will gve it a try. even if it doesn't do anything i wouldn't trade this bike for anything. just turned 170,000 kl with this baby and i'll have it til i die. long time i hope. heh heh
I'll agree that the stock seat on the FLSTN is the pits. The two decorative seams ran right under my "sit bones". I swear that after two hours I could count the stitches with my butt. A Mustang wide solo seat solved that problem, and with the addition of a detachable windshield, made the bike into an all day ride.
I have had a bad time with the heat on my right leg. I am no the only one I know that has this problem. One friend put a pot holder in his pants. I have gon to VH 2 into one and added a snap on leather skit to the saddle. It is better. Never had this problem with my Standard or any other HDs I have owned. An thoughts.
Just got back from Sturgis,Wi,WA now back in AZ. Lots of riding with my right knee out at a 90.
