does anyone know first hand, if the Nightrain rear fender/struts will fit an 02 Softail Standard?
Without major surgery...
The Nightrain has a fat rear tire, right?
I wanna run my 180 with a stock type dovetail and was thinking this may be the way to go.
What year fender/ struts are you talking about? If your question is "will the fender/ struts from an '02 night train fit an '02 softail standard?" The answer is yes. They are the same fender/ struts.
No donor yet... still looking.
If the earlier Softails are the same as the earlier NT's.. is it safe to say the late models are too?
The newer Softails a wide tire version too?
Forgive my ignorance, but I haven't owned Harleys for over 20+ years...
I have been a ricer for the recent years. ;-)
So, this is all like starting over...lol!
I am assuming that the strut mount holes will line up and the fender can be bolted to that and it will accomodate my 180... maybe have to rework the splash guard...
I just want to get the stock look back and have the oppurtunity to have a "nice" 2-up seat...
I don't like the clip in pass seat for the heartland and I think 350+ for the leather 2-up from them is a bit steep if it's anything like the one that came with the kit.
Night Train is the same as FXST and FXSTC tins , bolt for bolt, the only difference you have is in 'year', so an 01 FXST will take any 00 to 05 NightTrain rear fender.
Other difference is in Injection (when it comes to switching Tanks).
Can you stick a 180 under the rear fender of an FXST? Seems like I did that on my 01 -- went from a 130 to a 180 without anything but some different spacers. My 03 has a 150 and I'd like to bump it up to a 180, my favorite width for this bike...

ERMMM... definitely NOT !, the best you can do for stock fender and struts on 01 FXST is 160 Metz or 150 Dunlop (they are both the same width).
in 01 you can stick 180 only under a Deuce rear fender, NOT FXST/C/B.
There has been others who did a complete swap with Deuce and it works (swing arm, wheel, fender, struts).
At any rate, the 'fat' look fad is gone thankfully and skinny tires chops is all the rage .. I knew the MoCo will bring a fat tire bike (Rocker 08) the same year the fad is gone
