Default Heritage Dash problem

I've got a 02 Heritage, the panel UNDER the chrome dash on the top of the gas tank, has 2 spot welds holding the stud bracket, that holds the dash down. Well, this bracket that is spot welded came totally off, looked to be from a not so good spot weld. Anyone have a fix, i did try JB weld, didn't work, well, it did for a while, and i did everything correctly, cleaned it up really well, mixed product right, etc. So, I'm thinking about tig welding it back on after taking the gas tank panel out, or off. Any other idea's??

It will need to be welded back on. Use extreme caution welding on that tank. Things tend to go bad quickly when welding fuel tanks. I can weld bat always shy away from explosive pieces.

That's my thought as well, the good thing is, i can take a panel completely off of the tank and weld it on the bench. I was just wondering if anyone had any better idea's. thanks.

I say weld it. I am a welder as well and if you can take the parts off and throw some tig tacks on it, then re-install to look original.... go for it.

Better off just welding it! Sucks you have to take it all apart to do the job, but atleast you know it's not "Jerry Rigged".

Well, THIS IS GETTING EMBARRASSING, it's not quite as easy as a guy would think HOW IN THE HE-- do they get the guts out of the tank, i've got a service book, and parts manual, has anyone EVER taken the panel off, and gotten it out before?? It has a spring attached and in the book say's to reach inside the tank and release the pump from a bracket. RIGHT!! I've only gotten the rear hose off the whole thing, and there is very little room to lift the panel up after its unscrewed from the tank. If anyone can help, please jump in, i'm getting frustrated, to say the least, PM me if you'd like. I'm trying to be very patient, but, i'm not gaining any ground. Oh, a new piece, the complete panel is 300 bucks, even the HD dealer said to weld it, i will IF i can get it out, someone put it in, it HAS to come out. So, if you can shed some light on this please do. and, THANKS for the help so far.

Take your time, I use a screw driver to reach in and unlock the hinge. I gets easier after you have gotten it out and see how it works. The first time can be a pain, and I like you thought I would never get it out.
