Default 2003 Softail " sneeze " ?

I was out cruising around today and i started not notice on acceleration the engine would " sneeze" , that's the best way I can explain it . It almost sounds like the engine cuts out for a millisecond and then continues right along . It did it to me a few times today ...should I be worried and could someone explain what I am hearing

Mine does the same every now and then (maybe twice on an all day ride). I am interested as to the cause as well.

sneezing or carb/tb coughing is a sign of a lean condition. either you have an intake leak or you may need to adjust carb. if carbed id start by turning out mix. screw a half turn.
if efi id look for intake vacum leaks.

Sounds like a lean cough if your carbed and have stage one air cleaner and put on pipes do the rejet per sticky if you dont have the stage 1 open the air screw 1/2 turn should fix your problem.

Thanks guys. I just picked up my 06 train and am still figuring it out.

The lean situation definitely makes sense since my bike does have pipes and a air cleaner. I will adjust the screw and see if that will cure it.

By the way, which screw is it?

The carb needs to be drilled out to get to the mixture screw. Should probably change to bigger jets in the carb. Not hard to do. I did mine on my 99 EVO without removing the carb.

The mixture screw is only for idle and very low speed, going down the road the fuel is going through the pilot jet (mid range / intermediate, What ever you want to call it) that has to be changed from the bottom carb, the main jet may be big enough.

Yep. The 06 Night Trains have the 200 tire and run the carb'd 88" motor.

Efi didn't come standard till 07.
