...hard to find neutral sometimes. The only thing I have to compare it too is a Sportster I rode. the heritage sounds like a mack truck or something when you shift. Pretty hard clunk and it is about twice as easy to find neutral on the Sportster as it is on the Heritage. My local service guy says that is the way it is because the Heritage is a bigger bike and different transmission than the Sportster. I'n running Mobile1 75/90 syn gear oil and am wondering if changing to a heavier oil like 75/140 would soften it out any. thanks for any info.
I use Redline Shockproof in my 07 Heritage. It made it easier to find neutral but still has a little clunk. Its a Harley so if I want smoothe I would have to go metric.
Heavier oil will help for sure but never cure the clink. I use Amsoil extreme and I love it. Shifts better, less noise, and I think less wear. If you ride the bike in cold weather like I do meaning below freezing make sure you warm it up extra well.
One day it was 8 degrees and I wanted to ride. The oil thickens and when I shifted it to neutral so it could warm up for 30 mins the clutch would not release and the clunk sound was very loud. Thicker oil is great for warm weather which is most of my riding but is not crank and ride in a short period of time in cold weather. Let it warm up dont ride and think that is a good way to warm the oils.
