The clunk is normal. Mine does the same thing.

Nothing more to say about the clunk, but I find it easiest to find neutral by upshifting (front peg) - can hardly ever find it trying to use the rear shift peg.

My 2010 clunks nicely. I have no problem finding neutral. Just lucky I guess...

My 08 Heritage clunks a bit too. I recently put Amsoil 75/140 severe gear in it and it softened it out some. Just think of it as positive feedback.

My '03 Heritage was having the same problem with finding neutral. I took it to a buddy, and he adjusted the clutch. It helped. It is not dead-on... but it did improve it. I run Bel-Ray oil, and I still have a small "Clunk" sound when I shift. I really think it is just the way the bike is made. Hope you get it squared away... let us know!

My 2010 Heritage only "clunks" when going into 1st.. No other clunks after that.. Also the only clunk is from nutural and not downshifting.

As far as finding nutural.. Have not had any problems when using my heel to tap back to nutural but when using the the toe to up shift there is a little more time!

The clunk is a Harley trade mark. Heavier drive oil does help. It also softens the noise in 5th gear. Straight cut gears. I never try to find neutral from 2nd, only toe shift from first. No problems. Never do city driving in the cold with heavy oil without a good warm up period. If you hit a long stretch without much traffic for the first five mins out of the drive way, no problem. The V-Twin will warm things up for you.

Mine clunks too. As for neutral, I find that if I rev it it a little while pulling up on the shifter, it will slide right. A friend of mine taught me that.

JUst changed to HD fluids after some warranty repairs and it does as good or better than anything else that has been in there....Hold the clutch in for about 10 seconds before you shift in first....

Agree w/Night Stalker - look at clutch adjustment...could be a little off. Also, try to pull the clutch & hold for a few secs before shifting into 1st - gives clutch time to do its job. I've changed to Spectro 6-speed tranny oil & it seems to make things shift better and less noisy (whine) - might want to give some a try in yours. Good luck!
