Picked up the bike from where? I picked up my bike from the dealer once and both my auxiliary spot lights were blown. I made a "U" turn in the next corner and pointed that to the mechanic. I told him that when I leaved tha bike there my lamps where good, he replied that "electric parts have no warranty, that they can abruptly fail at any time". I went directly to the manager (owner) and explained him I was not taking that freakkin' answer that it was impossible that both bulbs went off at the same time. He said that they probably created a short in my electrical system, that they would replace both lights at no cost. And so they did.
Could a faulty switch have anything to do with making the bulbs blow?
I hate electrical too but I dont see how a switch will make bulbs blow. If anything a faulty switch will either keep the on or off.
If youve checked the wiring throw a bulb in and see what happens. If it blows take a closer look.
Ya I actually did buy this bike from a very good dealer, traded my old evo in. It is a 2 hour drive though so I thought I would check for something simple. If they blow again I will give him a call and ride back, I am sure he will look after me.
When running HD passing light bulbs, I would have to replace them two, sometimes 3 times a year. I decided I wanted bulbs with a blue tint and bought a set of Luninics bulbs off ebay and that was about two years ago. A set of two were about the same price as one bulb from the dealer.
The post about an accidental short while it was being worked on sounds possible. I know that the dealer here always washes my bike with water after doing a service. Might have shorted that way too. Not sure about the passing lamp bulbs but the directionals are the same as my old car and are available at any auto parts store. I have a spare passing lamp that I got for my last bike, a Yamaha cruiser, and it's the same bulb as my Heritage. Proably available at alot of places.
