I have 2007 FLSTC and I just installed a set of V&H Double Barrel Longs, Fuelpak and a K&N (p/n RK3909) Air filter. I was on the road testing it and the engine would bog down under hard acceleration so I think that I bumpted the limiter. So what speeds/gear does the limiter kick in. I don't have a tach so info including engine RPM is useless to me.
Thanks
I believe the engines (stock ECM Map) rev limited to about 6200rpm. As far as the speeds in gears thing goes, you may to have to work that one out for yourself with a calculator cause I'm not about to wind mine up to find out, I would rather use the tach I installed for just that reason instead.
I have heard that the stock ECM sets the limit to 5000 (From what I have read on this site) I am curious what that converts to in speed in the various gears.
Why is everyone afraid of rev limiters. They're there for a reason. As long as you dont stay pegged on the rev limiter you should be alright. Ive hit it on my X-bones and my Mustang GT a few times... Vette doesnt have one it just starts to overheat extremely quickly.
As for what it feels like yeah its basically a wall where you just stop pulling. I would try nailing it in first gear you should definitely feel it and hear it as well.
Well I am not affraid, just curious. I installed a new set of pipes, air cleaner and fuelpak and when I tested the set up I opened her up wider than I ever had and I just wanted to make sure that it was the limiter I was bumping up against and not a gooned up map in the ECM. Normaly I would never even think about reving it that high but since the install I wanted to see what I had.
I've hit it before, but i was accelerating too quickly to be looking down at my speedo and tell you how fast I was going... Faster than I should have been, hows that?
I have hit mine a few times and it's very obvious. It's more of a miss than a bogging down. Thats what the limiter does is cuts the ignition on and off. Bogging sounds more like the map is too lean at the higher rpm's.
