Default lo/jack on harleys

does anyone have a lo/jack on thier bike? the reason i ask is here in my town, the police just arrested a guy about three blocks from my house with 27 bikes in his garage, livingroom and basement. atleast 16 of them are reportd stolen. this guy got busted because he stole a bike with lo/jack on it afew days ago and a few towns away.
my wife wants me to get the lo/jack now and i was just curious about anyone else. i guess it would pay for its self if you had to use it to find your bike if it was stolen.

Lo-jack is only available in certain parts of the country. If you ride to remote areas and your bike turns up missing you may not get it back. The one I have covers N. America. U.S; Southern Canada and parts of Mexico. I installed it my self and I pay a small fee monthly fee. My Deluxe came with the factory alarm system. I just couldn't bring myself to paying for a siren and pager. I installed this device and now I just set my alarm. If my bike is tipped up the lights flash but thats it. I get a cell phone call that the alarm has been triggered. I've hidden the antennas so know one knows their there. I also know that they work on other and older bikes, as another person put one on his "Evo" If you e-mail me I will send you some info or talk to you about it.

How does it work:
LoJack is completely passive until you report the bike missing. Call the police, not LoJack, with the bike's VIN #.
They in turn access the LoJack system and activate the transmitter in your bike.
At this point, any LEO with a LoJack receiver can track it to its location.

Pricerevised)
The price was $835 installed.
I paid a flat price, with no recurring charges for the life of the bike.
The LoJack can be transferred to a new owner, but not a different bike.

Location:
The unit is slightly smaller than a pack of cigarettes.
It was installed under the seat of my 06 Dyna and spliced into the wiring harness located there.

Installed by:
It was installed by the HD dealer that I bought the bike from. (Authorized LoJack dealer)
It was offered as a part of the total price of the bike.
I accepted, and it was installed as I finished the purchase paperwork.

What is the price for this? Someone must remember. I am quite interested as I have really high insurance premium and would like to lower it a bit.

The price for the system I have is $599. You install or take to someone. I still believe that lo-jack wants to maintain on a yearly basis. At least thats for cars, trucks, etc. Again you can only use if local enforcement has purchased software from lo-jack. Here in IN as far as I know, with talking to local P.D. (Indianapolis, Carmel, Westfield, Greenwood, and County Agencys they are not intending to subscribe) You can also remove and transfer to other bikes or vehicles.

Sounds like the system is GPS based. This is the kind of system I want to get as it works anywhere a satelite can be seen. Tell me more about the one you have installed.

There are two types of vehicle tracking systems. Radio transmitter based and GPS satellite based. Lojack is a radio based system where your local police department has to have lojack tracking units installed in their patrol vehicles. They are easy to spot as the vehicle will look like an antenna farm with 4 or 5 antennas on the roof just for the lojack system. As they are out patrolling if they get a hit on the lojack they follow the direction and intensity till they locate the vehicle. Usually lojack is only good for metro areas where the pd have it in the cruisers.
The new systems are GPS based and work everywhere. Usually a monthly fee where lojack is one time only activation fee. With GPS there are no limitations and the tracking company can tell you at any time where your vehicle is located.

According to Allstate (my agent) having the Lo Jack installed will NOT reduce your insurance premium, since it's not a deterrent mechanism, as a matter of fact they recommend a traditional alarm installed preferably. So if they steal your bike with a L/J, you better NOT tell your insurance until the cops find it, assuming they find it within a few hours and it's in good shape. I'm sure some bandits are reading this thread and know where to look for the L.J in the bike, since there are not too many places where to put it.

I have a L/J installed in my Cobra and paid a one time fee, no monthlys.
