Gee, thanks for the info. I didn't even know what that light was for. I just wait for it, and any other idiot lights to go out after the fuel pressure comes up before I hit the starter button. Guess I should check out the owners manual for a refresher...
I couldn't figure out what that goofy icon was supposed to be so I guess it's not all that "universal." If the light looked like a V-twin maybe it would have been more obvious (to me).
SteelJ, I noticed you have over 56K on you odometer. What year and model bike? Have you had any major work done to get to 56K. If no major work has been done, then my confidence level in the twin has just doubled.
I wait for that light to go off religiously....I just don't know why I do that other than being told that I'm supposed to. It's kinda like the "Lost" tv show. Keep pushing that button even though you don't know why.
2006 Heritage Softail FI. Absolutely no problems so far, but then I seem to generally have good Kharma with things mechanical. Rocket Harley in Huntsville, AL is a good bunch but after the 1000 mile service I switched to Mobil 1 and do my own work so no one to blame but me.
According to the owner's manual you should wait until the "check engine" light goes out before cranking on EFI model as it is going through a self test. Rider's Edge also strongly recommends using your "run/off" switch as primary power and not your rotary key switch.
Anyone who makes the commitment to buy a Harley should have enough of a clue to comprehend an amber V-twin sysmbol indicates the friggin engine. If you don't know what you are sitting on then you don't deserve the ride.
hey steel j lighten up, humor ha ha, I never noticed the icon was a automotive icon your right HD could change that, does it matter? NO. is it really an idiot light that no one needs? YES. Does this mean I cant ride now because of your rules
Ain't nobody making no rules. Talk about lightening up. Just seems like if a person is sitting on a V-twin and then sees a V-twin shaped "idiot" light a mental connection might be made.
I just thought it rather odd that a company that stamps the HD logo on every cap screw would overlook such an opportunity to reinforce the engine configuration that made them famous.
