I will be getting my bike endorsment shortly and I want to know if this is a good idea and buy. I've got a friend who is selling his 2004 Fatboy FI with detachable windscreen, backrest and bag rack. It has 2700 miles on it and comes with a 10,000 miles service agreement. Its been kept in the garage he's asking 11K. Is this a good deal? Is this a safe bike for a first time owner?
PS
Be gentle its my first time ; )

I think a Fatboy would make a good 1st bike. As far as a good deal...I couldn't tell you with the market the way it is now. I'd suggest going on ebay and doing a search on auctions for 04 Fatboys in your part of the country that have ended and see what they are bringing there.
Welcome to the forum and if you buy it you are required to supply pictures here ASAP. We love pictures here.
An 04 with 2700? That's like still new. $11k sounds fair but,I'd offer $10K and see if he bites.
Agreed. Hell, Id offer 9k and maybe meet him halfway at 10k?
Fatboy is a good start Id think. If you dont get this bike off your friend just dont get anything too small that youll regret in a year (something youve outgrown). The fatboy you wont outgrow.
As far as a safe bike......every bike is a safe bike as long as its been maintained. Its the operator who may or may not be safe.
Good Luck and I say got for it if thats the bike you want.
Hey, sounds like a good deal. Low miles, great choice of a harley, and like said before, be sure not to buy to small. That way you wont have to get something bigger. Welcome to the FAMILY.
2700 miles. It sure hasn't been on the road so it must've been in the garage . Only way to know if it's a good deal is to shop around for similar bikes. Check on Ebay or wherever. FYI, I have an 08 and I'd be lucky to get 11k on a tradein.
Far as whether it's a safe bike for a first time rider, it depends. Many have started out on even bigger bikes and done fine. Others have started on smaller bikes and have not lived to tell about it.
I rode dirtbikes (chased by the cops a few times on the street too) in my younger days. After about a 30 year break from riding anything I bought my Heritage. Took it slow and stayed in my comfort zone and knock on chrome, I've done fine.
My wife's only prior riding experience was on Honda 90s as a teenager. At 50+ she took the MSF course and started out on a Deluxe. She's done fine too. But she had a good coach
