Default Springer squeaks

Greetings fellow HD enthusiasts. I have been checking out this forum for quite some time and learned tons so I thought I would join in the fun seeing how I'm having "issues". I just picked up a 98 Springer with 18k miles. Rode it about 800 miles and recently noticed a squeak coming from the front end when I decelerate quickly. I took one piece of advice and gave the springs a bit of WD-40 where the bushings (I think) are. Still does it. I have no idea the service history of this bike but did have my wrench check it out when I had new rubber put on last week. Not sure how detailed his inspection was either but it did not seem to be making the noise prior to the 600mi ride I took last weekend. What to do??
Thanks, Guido

I don't think I can pin this one on him. What I said is, I did not notice the squeak until several hundred miles after he put new rubber on front and back. I think his primary concern with his "inspection" was with the neck bearings. What I am hoping you or someone can tell me is where I should focus my attention. The noise ONLY SEEMS to happen during a quick deceleration like when I just crack the throttle and quickly let off. It does'nt seem to happen over bumps. Not only does it annoy me but my bigger concern is for potential bigger problems.

From what you have described it isn’t a head bearing issue. or a spring
I would ask your tech to look in the rocker arm area, in particular bushes and spherical bearings. It wouldn’t be a massive job to disassemble and inspect the parts and spot something obviously dragging / wrong.

This is a little bit specialist though if you have a manual something you can do yourself. Let us know how it goes; good luck

I know it's hard to really pinpoint these kind of noises but it sure seems like it's coming from the spring area. Anyone ever have a squeak in the shock?
Thanks,

My 96 did the same thing. At 50k I decided to replace the springs.Squeak went away.Springs were definitely wore out. New springs were only 24.00 each at the dealer.Big difference in ride. The spherical bearings showed no signs of wear. They are high dollar. If it's them I have a set I'll sell for half price of new.G.

I'll try the lithium spray first. If that does'nt cure it, springs won't break the bank but it sounds like a shop manual is a good investment here. I'd be willing to bet those springs just might come off like a bullet!!! Thanks Guys
