Default Better headlight options for FXST

Hi guys,
I am researching my options of having better light at night for my FXST.. this is two fold
1 - Seeing better
2 - Be seen better

I guess My choices would be ..
  • Adding more light to the bike (not sure how would this look, any photos ?).
  • Pumping up the 5 3/4 to 7" (again not sure how it looks ?, any photos ?).
  • HID kit, (Balast hiding issues ? where would this thing fit on a naked bike like an FXST/B/C) ?.
  • The new Harley LED Kit (anybody used it ? input on how brighter) ?
  • Using different visor, Euro Style that gets more light on the road .. where to get them from ? I bought one from Ebay that has 'autopal' but did not fit in the light.
I am looking into what have you done ? your experience ? .

Regards

Drag makes a 7" bucket that is $80. Get that and put the Harley LED in it. The Harley LED is really expensive, but if you want to be seen. Other options are adding passing lamps and removing you diffuser from your current headlight.

Thanks Drew,

I am not sure if anybody did have a 7" bucket on their FXS* ,

Yeea the Plug-n-play of the LED is really inviting !

I wanted the same thing shortly after I got my Night Train. I thought I was doing a good thing by buying a 6 3/4" light from Drag. I knew I wanted a bigger light regardless but didnt know how a 7" would fit or look, so I went a tad smaller. It doesnt put much more light on the road than the stock one did....then again I think it's the same bulb. I think I'm going to make my own light bar and put some good driving lights on it.

Here's a pic of my NT with the 6 3/4" light

That is excactly the type of input I was looking for, thanks SGT.

the bigger headlight is not hedious i think as long as it is not 'bullet' most lights will look OK. but your input regarding the quality of light is very interesting..

Seems LED is the way to go . I gotta wait to cross the border one day, if you guys think it is expensive in the US, try Canada .

Ya I agree, it dont look too bad. I just wish I went ahead with the 7" to open up more options for accesories and stuff.
The problem with the lighting might be that it's a cheep light, $40 or 50 if I remember right, I'm sure the reflector deal inside aint the best quality. I'd like to change it up for LED some day, but like I said for now I think I'll build a light bar or rig up another nice way to put some driving lights on. My morning ride to work takes about a hour on unlight backroads and gets kinda scary sometimes.

I considered the 7" for my 1986 FXSTC.
I got rid of the stock 35w/55w seal beam and went with a Halogen 55w/100w. Plenty of light and the angle difference between high and low beam was tighter meaning the low beam pointed further out instead of just lighting up the front fender and a few feet in front of it.
Stuck with the stock 5 3/4" look.

I replaced the bulb with a Piaa one and it's much brighter, cheaper then replacing the whole assembly.
