Default Fuel Cap Nightmare

Hello Lads,

I need some help, because I am going out of my mind.

I ordered a flush mounted fuel cap kit P/N 62823-08A

Now... This is where it gets all confusing...

The HD Website states that the part I wanted for my 2010 Fat Boy was 62818-08B which the web site states...

Fits '08-later SoftailŽ models (except FXCW and FXCWC) and '08-later Road KingŽ models.

HOWEVER on the box of my 62823-08A it states "Fits 08-Later Road Kings" which says to me that it should 08-later Softails like the one above!

Well... It does not fit in my Fatty. The fuel cap is too long to fit in the hole.

What I don't understand is which is right... the box, or the web site??

Hey bro, did a little research, they sent you the one for a road king. not a fatty to totally different flush mounts. call them and tell em, they sent you the wrong one.

You need:
62818-08A
Fits '08 later softails.

Hope this helps

So what is the difference?

The problem is... 62818-08A does not come up in the online HD parts list.

AND the confusing bit is this...

62823-08B
Chrome
Fits '08-later SoftailŽ models (except FXCW and FXCWC) and '08-later Road KingŽ models.

So if the one I have fits 08 later Road Kings - then like above it should fit the Fatty - But no!

They are not the same, Since they have 2 different model numbers. One for softails, and then one for roadkings. The one for softails is 62818-08A then they have one for roadies,, Im looking at the harley catalog, the road king flush mount is 62823-08A.

You need the 62818-08A. The one you have wont work, they are totally different. one is for a road king and the one that you need is for your softail.

Call your local HD dealer, and tell them you want 62818-08A chrome or 75014-08A Gloss Black. Thats what you need.

The dealer reckons the part number you talk about is gone, and replaced with new ones.

If you look at this link you will see the Softail one listed...

Yeah, thats strange. I have the 2010 catalog and its the numbers I wrote down. If thats the new model numbers, then they should work. I typed in the models numbers that I have and they come up in the harley parts web site. Strange.

You could just send those back and order the old models from another HD dealer online. Just a option. Hope you get it resolved bro
