Need help with value of Dad's Night Train...
My Dad recently passed. Thankfully, I was able to be with him when he left us. Immediately preceding his death, I was informed that I was about to have to make a lot of tough decisions, as he had no will and I'm his next of kin. While alot of the family concerned themselves with who would get what, I was arranging a funeral. I gave my dad a proper burial, and amassed a $15,000 funeral bill.
Dad's possessions didn't amount to much, but he LOVED his Night Train. I'm no longer a rider, as my last endeavor put a pretty good hurt on me. I'm in a position where I have to sell the bike to cover the funeral, but I'm not sure what it's worth. From looking at some online auctions, I'm ballparking between 7,000 and 15,000 but I still don't feel like I have a good handle on this.
As a member of CorralNet, Thirdgen.org, SuzukiHayabusa.org, and a few others; I know there are good, honest, knowledgible people hanging around these boards...so I came here for help. If anyone can help me with a solid value, and maybe some tips/tricks for selling these bikes, I'd appreciate it very much.
Here's what I know about the bike:
-2004 HD FXSTBI Night Train
-One owner
-23640 miles (Dad took several cross-country rides)
-Always stored indoors, probably saw some weather on long rides though.
-Equipped with "bitch" seat and rack that extends over tail of bike
-5-spoke front wheel (Don't know the part #) can't be sure, but I think he only bought parts from HD, so it's likely an HD part. Spokes are black, with a milled metal stripe down the center between two 1/2" slits about 3" long near outside of spoke
-No "saddle bags," but it does have a nice, large, black bag that I believe sits on the rack behind the seat
-Tires will need to be replaced sometime in the near future. They aren't terrible. They aren't great.
-The only blemish I can really find is a SMALL tear in the leather on top of the rear seatback. It's more of a poke that a tear...almost like a one-toed cat jumped on it or something.
My aunt claims he had some sort of 4-digit security code feature on the bike, but I couldn't find one, and started the bike and rode it 2 hours from his house to mine with no problems. A friend of his was looking at the round keyfob and told me he thought that the fob itself was a security feature, needing to be on or close to the bike in order for it to start. I'm not sure if either of these things are true.
I'd post pictures, but I really don't want this looking like a classified. I'd rather not **** anyone off with my first post. If anyone can think of anything else pertinent to helping me sell it that I need to look into, please comment.
I can use all the help you can offer. Thank you in advance.

The Key FOB is a security feature. If you ride off without it, the odometer will ask for a pin number to be entered to override the security feature. The manual will explain the security feature and how it all works. But your friend was correct in the proximity and how it functions.
Also, your dad may have written down his pin number somewhere, possibly in the owners manual.
Other than that, post some pictures. I'm sure you may come across someone that is interested in it. Or you could take it to a local dealership and ask what its worth.

My dad has an 06 Electra Glide and he has one. I don't know exactly what year they came out and what bikes they were offered on.
It may have been purchased later and added on as well.....
Hard to tell. Seems the OP doesn't know too much about the bike other than listing the upgrades and accessories.
And of course....I may be loosing it
Sorry to hear about the death of your Dad.

I believe the key fob was added within the last year and I DO have the pin code to unlock it, just couldn't see where it'd be entered. Now I know. Thanks again for the help and condolences.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back...
