I currently have a 2010 Softail Custom. Other than installing a light bar with driving lights, is there anything aftermarket in the way of a bulb replacement that would help get more light on the road? Everywhere I look, all I see is the stock 55/60 watt lights. The improved bulbs that I see are all H3 -H4 replacements. Is there a way to incorporate those improved bulbs using the stock bucket? Or am I pretty much SOL unless I change out the whole front lighting system?
you can do a cheap HID kit for a few hundred bucks, but without a proper projector housing, its just gonna scatter light everywhere and **** off whoever is coming at you. but you'll have a lot better light output. i saw in a harley parts catalog that recently came to the house there is a LED headlight out now. but i think its only LED on high beam, and stock on low, but i could be mistaken.
there is a H4 bulb you can get that is like 90W on low and around 110W on high , they are very bright I have used them in the past but with all the advances in bulbs I am going to try a silver star in my ultra when santa brings my visors , put one in the wifes Heritage and looks much brighter
I know you didn't want to go this route but I bought a used 7" Fatboy headlamp, even with the stock bulb it put out a broader beam. I them got the HD passing lamp kit, I have them trained a little out to the sides for deer. With the larger headlight it looks pretty good and works great. Under 200 bucks via fleebay..

I was wondering how your stock headlight did perform? I know my 04 reflector and bulb looks different from the new style. The problem with mine is if you adjust it by the book the lowbeam is too low for 55-60mph speed yet the high beam is so high that on the interstate the overhead signs blind you but it reaches out a long way. I finally compromised by tweaking the light up slightly so as not to shine in the back glass of the average car and just do not usually use the highbeam. Not sure what Harley was thinking when they designed the reflector. I got a newer one off e-bay off an 06 I think and its the same. How is yours adjusted?

@ GRF000, My stock bulb doesn't seem to do near enough on low beam at night on back roads. I turn it to high, (as I also do during the day) and it seems to me to be the same as low beams on a car.
@ Torquey, How would that bulb work with a stock bucket?
As long as you do not have a sealed beam, take out the diffuser and it will get brighter. It is the piece of metal over the bulb. Take it from there as this mod is free!
