Hey guys, a friend has a pair of stock SE pipes from a 2007 SE Springer Softail and has offered them to me to beef up the sound of my stock 2009 XBones. Anyone know if they will fit or if they will improve the sound over stock Bones setup?
I was thinking I could just take the slip on mufflers from his set and put them on my Bones because they look very similar in side by side pics. But I have see a few pictures of the pipes for sale on ebay and they look like they are all one piece from header pipe through to the muffler. I cant see his pipes now cause they are in storage for a few months (I knew you were gonna ask).
Someone out there has an answer for me I know it. Any thoughts appreciated (well any related to these pipes anyway!)
yes they will fit as long as you get the mount that goes with them.they are basically fatboy pipes.yes they are 1 piece now the crossover tube is connected to both pipes.the stock cans are cats as well so very restrictive.as for the mufflers not sure without seeing them if they will in fact bolt up to the xbones bracket or not.?
1st ? do you have stock pipes or SE pipes now.some consider SE mufflers stock go figure.
2nd if you change your pipes then you need to change your AC and get an ecm download done.which should have been done before you even left the dealer imo
as snook mention the word need is overstated..imo it should be done to get the harley sound .
goodluck

didnt mean you had to just omo should be done before picking up bike if you want it to atleast sound like a harley .otherwise it sounds like a honda
Thanks for the info guys -how does the re-mapping change the way the bike sounds? I do not want to sound like a honda!!!
I currently have the stock pipes that came on the XBones which are not SE however someone told me that the new stock pipes (2008 and newer) sound just as loud as the older (pre 2008) SE pipes because of mods that the MoCo made to satisfy emission standards etc. (yes they say the sound got better and louder) Two friends own Ultra Classics, one has stock 2007 pipes and one has stock 2008 pipes and the 08 pipes have way more rumble and almost sound like aftermarkets. Any thoughts on if I should even switch to these SE pipes for sound and or performance??? I am more interested in having a bit more sound than performance as long as the performance does not suffer - these bikes are weak (lack HP)enough from what I am used to.
no question the SE pipes sound better and perform better .as for remapping if you do the AC at the same time remapping is advised so it wont lean out .you get more power as a result which is alweays good..id get the SE pipes or similar upgrade the AC and remap it the difference is night and day .then if you still want it louder pull the baffles out remove glass and wadding and drill some more holes in the baffles..
the SE baffles have 18 5/16" holes and if you do the math radius squared x pi the SE pipes have an outlet equivilant of 50% so i added 18 more and now it sounds way better and performs better too..the stock exhaust has a catalyst in it and in no way could ever sound or perform like the SE mufflers period and they dont come apart and the outlet is considerably smaller so even if they did come apart they would still be restrictive compared to the SE mufflers..ask me how i know ..yup i took them both apart to see the difference ..on another note the SE2" have 25 5/16 holes
