Stage-1 HELP
I have a 2009 Softail Deluxe; With Vance & Hines slip-on exhaust, I have ordered the SCREAMIN EAGLE SOFTAIL DYNA STAGE ONE KIT 29773-02C with a K&N HD-0800 filter element. I will be installing a Premium Oil Cooler Kit Product ID: 26157-07 at the same time. Harley Davidson said I need to Re-Map after installing the Stage-1 upgrade. I also would like to use Niterider XiED to help cool down the engine and improve performance. Any thoughts?
Do I install the Xied before or after the Re-Map?

Xied adds a bit of fuel across the board. They are great if you're not looking for a performance tune but a "good enough" tune. If that is enough for you, than it might be good enough right there after adding your Stage I. That said, I would get a tuner. Since most of us on this board are never quite done and always have "one more" thing we want to do, getting a programmable tuner like a PCV will forever be ready for your next mod. You can download maps that will get you to "good enough" and then book some Dyno time with a tuner that knows the PCV and he can dial it in exactly to your bike. It will never run as good as after a "GOOD" dyno tune. Canned maps are ok, Xied's are good for a stock, good enough tune, but my vote would be for a real tuner.
Just for full disclosure, I do not have a stake in any of these tuners but do have experience with a PCIII, Xied's and a Thundermax. They all have their place, I just wish I had decided on the Tmax from the beginning. At least the Xied's work great for the wifes XL1200. No lost money there.

Thank you, Great information. I am considering a tuner. Still reading and trying to get my head wrapped around all of the technologies. My primary goal for this upgrade is to be ready for the HOT Florida summer. I am using AMSOIL throughout, and have ordered the oil cooler. The stage -1 / V&H Slip-on’s will help the engine breath, and my intent was to add the XiED for addition Fuel/Air performance benefits. My next step will be a tuner.
I presume the re-map is just the dealer downloading the software, in that case it doesn't matter when you put on the Xied.
All the Xied does is give a false reading on the oxygen sensor which tricks the ECM in adding a bit more fuel.
If you are going for a real tune, wait till after, although after a good tune there would be no need for the Xied's

I've had the ThunderMax on for several years now, and love it. I had a PCIII before that, and it was good also. Best bet is to pay the money and get a tuner...
My buddy just paid a tuner to dyno his Heritage, and the tuner was most high on the TTS Master Tune as it apparently is the most advanced means. For me, the TMax AT seems to work just fine - I'm hoping to get it on the dyno table this week or next to see where it is at, now that I've put a thousand miles on since the cam change.
Just for grins, here's a short video of one of the tuning runs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn8xDBiHpNI

Here's my deal...
I've owned TWO 2009 FLSTNs. The first I put Rush slip-ons on it only...No problems whatsoever till I traded for a Street Glide. I missed the Softail Deluxe so much I found another new 2009 Oct 2010 and bought it. I had a Stage I SE A/C kit, Rush slip ons, and dealer download installed before it left the dealer. I love that set up. The sucker runs better and stronger than the first ever did. 100% satisfied. I bet you would be too.. Now if you WANT to add the Xieds before/after(doesn't matter) the remap/dealer download that is fine but certainly not necessary.

Out of the tuners mentioned, Thundermax with autotune is nice as it autotunes the bike. The TTS is what my tuner likes the best as well and also has an autotune feature known as V-Tune. That being siad I ahve a power commander III on my ride and got a nice dyno tune after my 95" build and it runs great.
Since you are putting on an oil cooler and are concerned about excess heat, I would say skip the Xied's and get a tuner and a dyno tune or a tuner with autotune. It will cool the bike down quite a bit, and the newer bikes run really hot.

Thank you all for the help. Great to hear from someone who has experienced a stage-1 and a Re-Map on the 2009 Deluxe. I think I will have it Re-Mapped with just the stage-1 configuration. Then see what the XiED will do for it. I will let you know how it goes. I still have a my eye on a Tmax or a PCV but I need to ride a DYNO Tuned bike to see what it offers.
I can tell you this... my buddy's Heritage is similar to my Fatboy - we ran close before we both went to stage II, and as demonstrated in the video clip above he just had his dyno'd by a very renowned tuner here in the Bay area.
Bob was able to get him 10 extra horses and 12 extra fp of torque, over the dealer download that came with the cam upgrade, and got him up to 96 HP and 104 fp torque.
When we left and got on the freeway, we he climbed on it and I rolled on also, and was able to pace him up to 110 where we both backed off. So far, seems like the TMax has done its job. I realize a real tuner could certainly squeeze the extra numbers out, but I'm certainly happy with what the autotune module has been providing.
I know the XIEDs were all the rage for a while, and probably fit some folks' needs, but as I recall they fell short of expectations for a great many a few years ago?
