The devil is in the details. While the Heritage is the better value, the smoother look of the Deluxe worked better for me.

Most people don't consider what all they are going to change on a bike when they are trying to pick the right one. My advise would be, what do you want your finished product to look like? And which model is the closest to that dream? That being said, I bought the Heritage because of the value and the dealer said the Deluxe was for shorter people. I currently ride with no windshield, no bags, and love the tombstone tail light.....should have bought a Deluxe. Can't go wrong either way.

My decision came down to the $$$ I had when I bought my bike (never a good time to buy a Harley)...I knew I wouldn't be heavily modding my bike for at least 3 years, so I went with the bike that I could do everything with (touring, cruising around town, etc). I was looking at the Heritage vs. the RKC, but went with the Heritage due to the styling and comfort in the saddle. To date (2 years after the purchase), I've only put on 16" apes, Rush slip-ons, engine/bag guards, and passenger floorboards and I'm completely happy until I do some major mods this coming winter. I would include the RKC in your bike hunt. If you are comfortable on it, it's a great all-around bike as well. If you think you will be going with the SoCal style (21" front wheels, etc), then definitely go with the Deluxe.

I went with the Heritage because it came with a windshield, back rest, and saddle bags. Also, the exhaust sits lower as I don't like the Fatboy style high exhaust.

in regards to rear fenders, i want to swap something onto my train.

1-fatboy
2-heritage
3-LUX...

now i LOVE the t-stone taillight.....BUT...don't you need to have the LUX fender for it? Can it be swapped onto any other fender without the holes being toooooo big?

also i will not be using signals....LUX fenders have dents from sig bar......does the heritage have same dents?

trying to decide if t-stone light is worth all the hassle or just slam a fatboy fender on.
