Has any of you guys installed a real HID "High Intensity Discharge" set of headlights on a HD? HD brand or not....doesn't really matter....what I am looking to find out is if someone can post up some pictures of the install especially if you installed the ballast boxes INSIDE the headlight Nachelle or Headlight Assembly....would like to hear and see a little about it....
Havent done it on a harley yet but I did install one on my triumph I stuck the ballast to the inside of the fork cover the only thing I had in the headlight was the bulb and relay
on youtube you can see a guy installing the HD kit and he put the slim line ballast box inside "per HD" the headlight assembly....I will need to fit 4 ballast boxes in the assembly...
Hemrick Performance has a kit that does the headlamp and the passing lamps. I talked to Clark and he mostly does them on Touring bikes but says it can be done on my Fatboy. They are the only ones I have seen that has the passing lamps (that I have seen). Website states they have them special made (shorter bulbs) to fit the passing lamp housing. I would love to do this kit on my bike but have been figuring on what to do with the ballasts. They claim two can fit in the stock headlight bucket? If they go inside the fork covers I wonder how water resistant they are? I'm tempted to get the kit and try it but would love to speak with someone that has actually done it.

I am going to order the kits and try it.....first thought I will take the headlight it's self out and take a look....I have installed two kits before on my two sportbikes....easy as pie....and what an improvement in light...wow....both of mine are slim ballast boxes like in this video I posted above....I highly recommend buying slim ballast kits if you do it....I will post a video or pictures of my install once I inspect the headlight basket and see how tight it is in there.....stay tuned.....will be a few weeks but keep the comments coming
I have done a few softails with and without the nacelle. The slim ballast fits right into the bigger housing but no way in a smaller unit. I have not done a passing lamp kit but I do have one sitting in my garage I am going to try.
Here is a slim ballast inside a standard Fatboy headlamp housing. It's a cozy fit but no issues and no forcing anything.
Thanks Big H...that is exactly what I was looking forward to seeing....I am going to try to put each SLIM ballast at 12-3-6-9 o'clock around the assembly w/ the ballast boxes standing upright on their side like in the video I posted...should work in the Nachelle I have....since it has a good amount of room....we'll see...when you doing yours?
