Default crash bars on a lo

There is another thread on crash bars with some valid reasons for getting one. Does anyone have any pics of a lo with crash bars?. I do not like the look on most softails.

I know a guy that lost his foot (met him at a rally), that did not like the look of a crash bar either. He slid about 200'+ on the left side of his bike and it ground his foot down to a stub.

Use it or lose it!

Ouch! Guessing this needs to be a mod I need to move up on my list? Coming from the Sportbike world I have a lot to learn.

Ive heard just as many stories against the engine guard stating that in a high speed crash it will fold and trap your leg. There are a couple of guys on this forum that have posted

They are not designed as "crash bars" and at speed probably will not make too much difference. Remember they are only 1.5 " tubing supporting an 800 lb motorcycle moving forward at speed they will bend just like the bars bend. Their strenght is from the side not front which is why at slow speed falls and drops they will do their job and probably save you $. But when 800lb is moving forward at speed they mayoften fold over.

If you want one Id buy it knowing that it will help if you drop your bike off the jiffy stand or at slow speed but dont count on it at road speeds.

A helmet won't help if the bike lands on your head either, lol. To each thier own man.

If you lay your bike down at around 30mph and under (which are the most common speeds for a lay down) like if someone pulls out front of you, intersections etc... It most certainly will hold up and have seen the after math of such.

No it will not hold up at high speeds but niether will anything else on the bike. Do I really have to break this down?

I had one on my Sportster and when a semi changed lanes into me on the 15 freeway to Vegas and pushed me off the road into the desert sand, that crash bar saved my leg. It did bend back into the forwards, but it stopped the bike from coming down on my leg. I now have one on both my Deluxe and LO and will have one on any future bikes as well. Also, you do need somewhere for the highway pegs.
