So here is the deal, I currently have the screaming eagle stage 1 set up on my bike. Now I want to get rid of the football, I want something a little more custom, my question is, can i purchase a small chrome cover or air filter insert, and run with an open filter, or this not possible. i would also figure I would have to buy a new filter as well, the one that is there now, is k & N, but what about the rain. i think the backing plate should be very similar to ness big sucker but I may be wrong???????
basically wondering what can be done before getting rid of the damn thing!
Would appreciate any info and help with the subject.
Why not check out the S&S web site. They maks a complete air cleaner replacement kit for the newer FI bikes that uses their old traditional tear drop chaped cover. It can also be gotten with something a bit fancier than the plan cover if your looking for something a bit different.
HD has a round chrome A/C cover - called the "Nostalgia" I think. About $45 retail. That should fit and work for you. I had one on my 05' standard, and am running the same thing with the new bike and a Ness Sucker. Here's the best close-up I have for an idea......
The SE filter and Ness are the same size.
HD makes several nice chromie inserts which perfectly fit the K&N filter, leaving the element fabric exposed. The HD inserts are about the size of an audio CD, in fact, some people use audio CD's on their element.
I've been caught and ridden in the rain* many times, without any problems ever with the exposed element. I keep the filter oiled with the recharge kit.
*Rain means light rain, I don't and won't have a windshield, I have a half helmet, and a hard rain/downpour is not only dangerous and miserable but it feels like hundreds of BB's hitting you in the face at 75 mph.
During downpours and 'walls of water' that happen down here, I find safe haven under an overpass or the like.
Anubisss, what do exactly mean by harley plate and screamin eagle kit are you refering to your cover or back plate. because I have to say your cover looks great.
I put on a Screamin Eagle Heavy Breather a couple weeks ago and figured that I'd have to have the Race Tuner retuned. I have never seen such a huge power increase with a air filter change. I had to gain close to 10 HP. I was going to have the 95 kit done this winter but now have decided against it. If you can handle the look then you will be very happy with the results!
