I have been told that a HaydenM6 hydraulic chain tensioner will eliminate this. The primary chain whips around pretty good and an automic tensioner should keep that from happening.I'll be doing this SOON.
Dave: Your choice of colors is great! They seem familiar to me...but something is different...?
Oh, BTW, clunking in the shift is normal for a Harley. If you are careful you can shift most of the time without it, but you have to pay attention. If I use my toe and match speeds (kind of like a double clutch, but not) I can shift pretty quietly. I haven't figured out how to get rid of the neutral to 1st clunk though. Just part of the Harley mystique.
Thanks the black is pearlized so it kind of has a metalic light black look hard to discribe.
The M6 will not eliminate the clunk. I have installed one and saw no improvement. If you have a shop manual and a lot of patience you can adjust the shifter play at a very awkward place on your transmission. However, the best I've ever managed to do is control whether it clunks louder on upshifts or on downshifts. In theory there is a perfect spot, but the location makes this very tough. I even had my transmission out and made the adjustment and it still was a long way from 'silent'. My softail is a '91 springer that I bought new. I just got an '07 RKC and the clunk is about the same on it....
I have an 06, and when I first got it the clunk seemed loud. Now after a few thousand miles it seems much better. Either that or the loud pipes are making me deaf!
Your not bloody wrong, It wasnt as obvious with the v&h big radius but Ive changed back to stock its pissing me off. I might go the redline heavy shock proof 😜👍
Clutch not adjusted properly can cause shifting issues. Primary not adjusted right can cause noise but your 6 speed should be self adjusted. (Should) do you have a factory service manual?
I own a '07 Heritage Classic with the SE 2 upgrade. Since this is my first Harley I don't know if what I'm hearing is normal or not. Most of the time the bike shifts not hard, but clunks when up or down shifting. Some times, I guess if every thing is running the same rpm, it shifts without making a noise.
Is the clunking normal? or unique to the 6-speed? or do I have a problem?
No man you're just riding a Harley the best motorcycle in the world.
