Josey's Excellant 'Mod' Adventure.
FYI I just bought my very first Harley this winter and at first thought I would be just happy with a VH 2-2 stage 1 and accept the rest of the stock as is mostly. Like one member said when I first introduced myself, 'buying the bike is the cheap part'. Therefore, here I go....First up.
I am having troubles finding custom paint/art combos for the denim look to the LO. Everytime I visit, I am blown away with the talent and imagination in this community...and come to realize that first impressions for myself starts with the paint when it comes to personalization. Therefore I am trying to gather airbrush or decal effects w/ denim to start getting ideas that will not lose the Lo's retro feel of the denim black. If anyone has links/pics it's much appreciated.
Where I live in Calgary Canada, 'Cross-Eyed Airbrushing' I hear is really hard to get work done if theme and inspiration is not up to their standards. One of the Ladies I work with in Northern Alberta has her husband's chopper on their home page (gold w/ female wrapped in spider web). This is how I came across this company. The type of art is what I maybe after in the following link,

I am starting to find that theming and personalization a HD is just as hard and involved as inking imo. The bike derserves the same T&C and want to make sure it's a keeper.
Anyways folks, any help or comments is much appreciated!
/cheers
I looked through that site and didn't see how any of the artwork went with the "retro feel" of your Lo. Retro equals class. To be classy is to be in some ways, minimalist. Bikes of old WERE solid colours. Perhaps, what you are truly looking for would be to add some accenting with pinstripes? But, I can guarantee you that painting skulls, webbing, dragons, women, etc, will NOT improve the look of a classy ride. It will make it unique and interesting, as well as YOURS. Meaning, going as extreme as was depicted on the website will hurt resale should you ever sell. Most people aren't going to want a strange woman painted on their bike...or anything like that. Just something to keep in mind.
When going for retro-cool. Think "essential" in regards to paint. That is basically what you have now. If you feel the need to improve, you can add pinstriping, remove the badges (and send them to me!) or other such things. But, do add what I would call "mural art" is a bad decision in my book. I think it really detracts from the overall look of the bike.
But, what's that matter? It's just my opinion, and the bike is yours. Some people really like it.
As always, feel free to ask questions whenever!
Oh, as a side note, new threads are a GREAT way to get questions answered. Once this thread gets so long, your new questions would be lost in the pages and possibly go unanswered.
Just a heads up. Plus, new threads open your question up to a broader audience, so you are much more likely to get a wider variety of answers.
Yes my gut has me thinking decal/pinstripe also. I agree, but still need to explore and imagine.
Atm, a vision I have is a teardrop image frame to replace tank badge and the theme to go in it. When I first saw the Lo, the idea of having a 'WWII' bomber girl and name for it like on the old noses. Still sits in my head as a strong option to evolve with.
Also good points on single OP vs. multiple threads.

But, do keep in mind the experience of others on the boards. Boredom WILL get you going down a wrong path. There is nothing wrong with exploring different options, but always take a step back and thoroughly imagine you riding the bike you're building. I always mod with the idea I'll have my bike forever, and any little thing I do, I do with the intention of never changing it. This is actually an impossibility, as tastes do change over time, but what I'm saying is this: Going with drastic changes may seem fun, but really think through it before you do it. You want to be happy with your bike long-term, not regret an impulsive decision.
You are right...modding your bike will be a lot like getting ink. lol
