That is a good thought. I jsut replaced the CPS and that was not it. Unattached my power commander and that was not it. I guess I'll just hope my speedo is done soon and pray that is it. Drew, think about it, properly adjusted the cables need about an 1/8 inch of slack, or free play, where the cable is not opening the throttle plate at all, and it should still idle. It should start and idle with no throttle cable at all. If it was idling fast, or reving when your turn the bars it could be the cable adjustment or routing, but the cables can't make it idle too slow. The idle speed is controlled by the ECM. The speedo sends information to the ECM. What I'm saying is, it ain't the cable causing it to die.

Drew, my StreetBob did this twice, both times were when the country was having a gas problem like we are having now.
When I ran premium gas, the bike ran fine, if I ran regular gas, the bike would die when I pulled up to a traffic light or stop sign. Some stations around here were putting regular gas in their premium tanks, so when you bought what you thought was premium, it was regular grade.
Once I had a problem like yours on my '08 Heritage. Turned out to be regular grade gas in the premium tanks.
I hope this simple suggestion helps.

The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes).
Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying and clearing speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.
2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.
3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting should illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word “diag” should then appear.
4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.
5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted)
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer
6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.
7 - Record the codes.
8 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.
9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.
10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.
On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.
"No Rsp" will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.
Also if the code set is a historic code (not a constant light) after 50 start and run cycles of at least 30 seconds each in duration, the light will extinguish itself as long as the error hasn't occurred again.
If it were a current code, the light would remain lit while running.

Well my speedo is at the shop being modded which is m,sot likely the cause of this entire situation. I knew it couldn't really be the cables anyway, but i double checked as that was the last thing I did to the bike. I disconnected teh battery for 5 mintues to let the ecm reset itself and it sill acts the same. I want my speedo back so I know if that is the issue or not, but until then it will be ridden as is. I have a 300 mile ride planned for Sunday. The funny thing is this is really the first issue of this sort i have had since 2005.

I started a second thread in general as i would appreciate more exposure on this subject of my bike not running properly and it has been locked. Sorry I broke the rules IZZO, just trying to get my situation sorted out and the more people see the thread the more responses I will get. I am sure you understand.

hmmm....i think thers guys on here that ditched ther speedo all together but i might be mistaken and they have a carb.......

Yeah. I don't know. I am thinking about replacing the Throttle position sensor next, and then the idle air control, but at $50-$75 a pop this si getting expensive for something might have no result. So I will try to hold out until my speedo is done and see what that does.

get your speedo back and run the test and see if its a sensor code...it will tell you wut is wrong so you dont have to trouble shoot
