Default Question on rear brake pads.

I just got new brake pads since i got new tires. And when i went and compared the new brake pads they gave me i noticed that the rear pads had one that a cover or a flat piece over the right pad. I tried putting it on the new brake pad and its loose. So i was wandering whay that piece does and if i really need it. And also im waiting for my service manual its in the mail. Hopefully itll be here in a couple days

I've had my new pads for a few months but haven't installed them yet. Are you referring to the anti rattle plate clipped to the back of one of them or something on the existing caliber?

Should be a simple remove the old and install the new. Don't see anything in my service manual related to the anti rattle plate on the one pad. The one on my new pad is attached securely with spring clip tabs.

Like I said I haven't installed mine yet but it seems like a relatively easy job. Especially considering I just installed new bars and a chrome front end on mine.
