I picked up a 2005 Softail for my wife and notice riding it home the clutch level was a bit harder to pull in comparison to my Fat Bob. Is there adjustment that can lighten the tension on the lever or a spring that can be changed out to make it easier?
I'm afraid it might be a bit hard for her to pull. Any help greatly appreciated.
not really any adjustment ..I think there is a "easy pull kit" somewhere.
usually it is the clutch cable , routed wrong (too tight of a bend),
Or just worn out ..
try a new cable .
'07 and newer Fatboys have the easy pull clutch from the factory. You can get one through the dealer or after market if you want to lighten the pull for her.
It may have a stiffer clutch spring also? Many change them out to increase the performance of the clutch, and the new springs are considerably stiffer than stock.
You may also want to look into the VPC - Variable Pressure Clutch... it is an add-on which installs over the clutch spring and softens up the pressure needed to pull in the lever at lower RPMs. It basically acts like a lock-up clutch.
I was considering getting one when I upgraded my clutch spring, but find that I have no problems pulling the stiffer lever (yet anyway!).
Certainly keep the cable lubed well, as that can make a huge difference also.
