Default Power tuner questions

HD wants $530 - $750 for their power tuner and dyno tuning. He also said power commanders are limited due to their plug and play design. What are your thoughts. TIA, Mike.

A lot of people on this Forum will tell you to get the PC. The H-D are good in the sense that the don't stay on your motorcycle BUT if you ever decided to sell your bike and get another Harley, the H-D tuner will not work on your new bike. The H-D tuner hard wires your serial number into it's computer and it stays there. Only good for one bike.

Where as the PC 3 or 5 can be used for any Harley you want it to. You can sell it, change it over. Whatever. The downside is that it stays on your bike but with the new PC 5, it's so small that it fits anywhere and really, who cares.

So all in all, PC is a much better deal. IMO. The dealer is going to tell you get the H-D one because, well that's their job. There are better ones out there for sure. Do your home work before you make any purchase and don't let the dealer convince you one is better then the other. This Forum is FULL of unbiased opinions and I listen to these guys before my dealer.

P.S. I am getting the PC III next month.

You don't "need" a dynotune if you get the PC from Fuelmoto. They will supply you with a map that will work for your setup, and give you free lifetime support. They have a library of hundreds of maps that they created by tuning hundreds of bikes. Don't drink the Kool-Aide.

Thanks guys. I gave the guys at Fuel Moto a call and they are shipping me one pre tuned and with the rev limiter bumped up for less than half the $$. Thanks for the info.

Hell ya!! See, you saved yourself a TON of $$. Now, if you still want a Dyno to "fine tune" it, then you can but with just the PC, you'll be good to go.

Each tuner has their good and bad points. It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend. There other options as well. There are enough to make your haad spin!

I decided I am just going to save up and buy the one that auto tunes. Just might take a bit longer since the wife just got laid off yesterday. Hopefully she will find something soon enough. If not not a big deal.

One I am going with is 700 the Rev performance EMS tuner.

probably a dumb question but if someone chooses the power commander (or any other non harley one) and then wants a dyno fine tune, will the harley shop be willing and/or able to adjust it? in my case the harley shop is the only place around WITH a dyno. I had the harley race tuner installed before I bought my bike so not an issue for me...just curious.

In short, NO....most HD dealers won't touch a non HD product (unless they're bolting on some fake Kuryaken chrome that they sold).

Please pardon my short rant about tuning, but here we go (I'm not aiming this at anyone in particular, mind you).......Guys are willing to spend thousands of $$$ on nick-nacky chrome doo-dads, wheels, bars, seats, etc. BUT, when it comes to making your bike run at it's optimal performance, they don't want to spend a few hundred $$$ to do it right. I've purchased from Fuel Moto, and believe me, their customer service is amazing. I'd buy from them again, but I'd still have my bike tuned LOCALLY. Here's why- Fuel Moto is in Wisconsin. Unless you live in Wisconsin, or your climate is very similar, the tune is going to be "off." I don't mean it will kill your bike; I mean that it won't be perfect. Let's take me for an example....I live in Oklahoma. Our climate (temp, humidity, air quality, etc) is different from Wisconsin. So, the pre-loaded map that I got from Jamie was way off. That's not a knock on Jamie or his tuning abilities, in any way, shape, or form. I took it in locally to have it fine tuned, and it not only picked up 8hp/14tq, but ran better. Another thing is "canned" maps. Here's my analogy- "a canned map will get you in the ballpark. A GOOD tune will get you in the batter's box." Where do you want to be?

dumb question #2:

Is there a way I can hook up my HD tuner to my laptop and set my idle speed down to the lowest safe RPM (which is how low??). I have the module in a box but they didn't send a cord or CD with it...I assume I'd have to buy software (I'm not too handy with computers obviously). Thanks.
