Default 5 spd vs. 6spd

Looking at a 06 FatBoy with a 5 speed. Is there a BIG difference between the 5 and 6 speed transmission and what are some of them. Thanks.

i think the 6th gear is for overdrive, to lower RPM's on the highway and save some fuel

I love having the 6th gear. Yes...I don't use it until I'm hitting around 70-75 mph, but once you're up there, it's a MUCH smoother ride. If you ride the highway a lot, you'll want it.

I'm looking forward to the 6th gear. On my 55mi one way trip to work I often find myself searching for the 6th gear.

If you were okay with your previous bikes 5 speed tranny, then you have no reason to hesitate on this bike you are looking at.

Personally, every 5 speed I ever had, I found myself looking for that non existant gear too often. My my riding habits played a role in that.
Since I got my current bike with a 6 speed, I am convinced that there is no way I will ever go back.
I can ride my sweet spot without constantly looking for another gear.

What are your riding habits? What speed do you spend your highway time at?

Surely you realize that the transmission is not the only difference (in the bikes that come stock with 6 speeds). Many other bennies there too, including the motor. LOL
Simple big bore kit gets you to 103", to name one advantage.

+1 with the other post ...I really like the 6th gear on my 09 Fatty. Just some geeze wiz info in 2010 HD changed the 5th gear in the 6 speed tranny from a straight cut to a helical cut gear it made 5th more quite

Rarely use it around town, pretty damn nice on the freeway.

It's like a windshield, once you get used to it you're screwed.

Once you have tried a 6 speed it is hard to enjoy a 5 speed..unless you stay under 65 or so..

My brother and I both have Heritages. His is an '06' five speed and mine is an '09' six speed. To tell you the truth I can't really tell any difference. He also gets the same or better gas milage than me. I wouldn't let that be my deal breaker.
