Default 07-09 Softail model Differences

I am looking at picking up a Night Train. I want an 07 or later because I want the 6 speed trans and the wider rear tire. Since I do want the Night train this limits me to the 07-09 range. Is there any real differences between the years here? Is there anything I should look for since this is going to be a used bike? Any particular reason to stay away from any one of these years? Any other info would be greatly appreciated!!

I could be wrong but I think the first year of the 6speed trans had some issues. I wanted a night train as well so I opted to get an 08 just to be safe.

06 had a 200mm tire too : ) but mines a 5 speed but im ok with that cuz I know my gears are not spread out like the 6 gear trannys are. get a 09. its the "newest" i guess 6 sp and 200mm tire win-win for you bro

6 speed "Cruise-Drive" transmissions have straight-cut 1st and 5th gears. Straight cut gears are inherently noisier, but stronger than other types with no side thrust concerns. Some folks hear it, others (like me) never have. There has not been a reliability issue with them that I'm aware of.

I'll be honest. There is an 07 for sale locally with an excellent price tag. But there is an 09 for sale on here. Why not support the forum right? It is a ways away but what better way to break in a new (to me) bike than a road trip home!!

No real difference. The '10s went with a different 5th gear, but other than that I think they're pretty much the same. '09 is newer though...
