An embarrassing question...
Thanks everyone...I'll start trying some of your links.
This whole pants thing is an AF in Europe knee jerk reaction to some deaths over the past couple of years. If you're speeding on the autobahn you're not gonna win when you crash, but we always take it out on everyone.

I'm a true believer of the free world, where we can all decide ourselves what we want or not. But I don't mind protective clothing becoming mandatory...
There's lots of proof that protective clothing makes a difference when you kiss the asphalt. I've done it twice, first in a normal jeans, the second time with leather pants. Each time someone else caused the accident. I'm doing my best not to do it again, but I've learned my lesson the hard way... Standard jeans are for a walk in the park!
I hear that in Germany your insurance will soon limit their coverage of personal damage when you're not wearing the right gear.
If you're looking for good quality/price, go take a look in your nearest BMW Motorrad shop. They have good textile pants with kevlar and protectors for less than 200eur.
Keep ridin' safe!
